Riana Fisher leads D.C. students in exploring nationwide bird
population declines, connecting classroom science to real-world conservation research. Through hands-on investigations and data analysis, students learn how habitat loss and climate change impact bird species and what they can do to help protect local ecosystems.
Students contribute to National Audubon Society documentary
on bird migration across the Western Hemisphere. Through classroom learning and field experiences in Rock Creek Park, students actively explore local bird habitats, scientific observation, and conservation practices, while sharing their discoveries with a wider audience through this collaborative filmmaking project.
Riana Fisher recognized as a 2022 Golden Apple Award winner
for excellence in teaching and instructional leadership. Featured in the Catholic Standard, the award highlights her commitment to student-centered learning, innovative curriculum design, and fostering curiosity and engagement in the classroom.
Looking Critically at Data Design in the Science Classroom
Riana Fisher & colleagues explore how data can reinforce or obscure power, representation, and bias. Through classroom work grounded in the Justice × Design framework, students learn not only to interpret graphs and datasets, but to question how data are collected, designed, and presented—and whose stories are visible or missing. The project supports learners in developing critical data literacy that connects science learning to real-world social contexts.
